About the Artist
Originally from south Jersey, Scott was a carpenter for a few years, and then a pastor in a small church in north central Washington state for 22 years.
In 2011, we moved to Peru to volunteer at a shelter for abused, abandoned, and neglected girls, run by a small church there. We lived there for 11 years and helped over 250 kids.
We moved back to the USA in 2022 with practically nothing; we stayed with family for a year while we worked on getting settled.
During that year with family, we accumulated a whole shop full of woodworking tools. Many were simply given to us, while others we bought used. When we finally found a house, it came with a second unfinished "guest house" that we've turned into my shop.
The one tool that we acquired but had never used before was the lathe. It was pretty intimidating at first, but after watching a lot of videos and practicing a lot, he has learned to truly enjoy it.
We’re in southern Georgia, just south of Vidalia. The majority of the wood we’re using is stuff taken down by hurricane Helene. For example, we have a pile of pecan logs in our yard - pretty much indistinguishable from hickory. We also have access to a variety of fallen oak and all the red cedar we can recover, too.
It’s amazing to see how a rough log can be coerced into revealing it's hidden beauty!
