The Shop
Originally from south Jersey, I was a carpenter for a few years, and then a pastor in a small church in north central Washington state for 22 years. In 2011 my wife and I moved to Peru to volunteer at a shelter for abused, abandoned and neglected girls, run by small church there. We did that for 11 years and helped over 250 kids.
We moved back to the USA in 2022 with practically nothing, and stayed with family for a year while we worked on getting resettled.
During that year with family, I accumulated a whole shop full of woodworking tools. Many were simply given to me, while others I bought used. When we finally found a house, it came with a second unfinished "guest house" that I've turned into my shop.
The one tool that I acquired but had never used before was the lathe. It was pretty intimidating at first, but I've watched a lot of videos and practiced a lot. I've been turning for about a year now, and I really enjoy it.
I'm in southern Georgia, just south of Vidalia. The majority of the wood I'm using is stuff taken down by hurricane Helene. For example, I have a pile of pecan logs in my yard - pretty much indistinguishable from hickory. I also have access to a variety of fallen oak and all the red cedar I can recover, too.
I hope you find something here that you like. Every piece is one-of-a-kind unique and made in my shop.
